Route Information

The South Carolina Adventure Route (SCAR) is a loop that is just over 1,000 miles that takes riders thru the unique rural areas of South Carolina. From the Low Country to the Midlands to the Piedmont to the Appalachian Foothills, the SCAR traverses South Carolinas unique geologic makeup. Due to urban sprawl the route is currently a 50/50 mix of paved back roads and dirt/gravel roads and can easily be done on a bigger adventure bike with the correct tires as well as smaller dual sport motorcycles. The South Carolina Adventure Route is currently on Version 16, prior to riding the route ensure that you have the most up to date version of the SCAR on your GPS or smart phone navigation app. To download the route and alternates click here.

Along the route riders pass thru or near small towns that have amenities such as gas stations and restaurants. One of the big features of the SCAR is how it passes close to several South Carolina State Parks and National Forest Campgrounds where riders can moto camp, those who like to travel light can also find options for hotels in several towns as well.

Outside of the SCAR’s Main Loop riders have the ability to ride several alternate routes. These routes vary in difficulty and can be ridden by those who seek a challenge, some of these routes can also be used to form loops for riders who want to do a two-to-three-day trip instead of a longer weeklong trip on the Main loop. For some additional information check out the Moto Adventurer Podcast where, SCAR Administrator Dana Brown goes over a few things about the route.
